Siding FAQ's
Q How can I see siding
samples?
A: For your convenience, Empire Siding will gladly
bring samples directly to your home. We can also bring
samples of siding accessories such as shutters and aluminum
trim.
Q: Are there quality differences between
various types of siding?
A: Absolutely. The biggest difference in siding
is based upon panel thickness, with thicker being better.
Generally, thicker panels are stiffer and will hang
straighter, lock tighter, and resist impact better.
Other factors that may influence the quality of siding
are color selection and availability, manufacturer warranties,
styles, profiles, and panel sizes.
Q: How should I prepare
my home for siding work?
A: We recommend that you take down all breakable
items from your walls. Exterior walls vibrate throughout
the re-siding process and can cause shelved items to
fall. Items such as rakes and shovels should be removed
from garage walls to avoid damage to vehicles and other
personal property. For easier installation and to protect
your landscaping, trim over-grown trees and bushes located
directly around your home.
Q: Do I need to be
home during my siding project?
A: No. It is not necessary for you to be home,
but it is helpful for us to have a phone number where
you can be reached.
Q: What types of
surfaces can you install siding over?
A: We can typically apply siding to existing wood,
cement, block and stucco surfaces. If your home
has existing siding, we will remove that material before
re-siding your house with the new vinyl, wood, or fiber-cement
siding.
Q: What direction
should the seams face?
A: Although the homeowner ultimately chooses seam
direction, some common industry practices can provide
you with guidance. For example, for curb appeal,
the seams should face away so that they are not visible
when entering the house. As the seams inevitably will
be noticeable from some angles, we suggest to make them
visible from the perspective that is viewed the least.
Roofing FAQ’s
Q: How can I see
roofing samples?
A: For your convenience, Empire Siding will gladly
bring samples directly to your home.
Q: Do roofing problems
create all leaks and water stains?
A: No. Ceiling leaks and stains can appear due
to several non-roof-related factors, such as clogged
HVAC units mounted in attics, incorrectly installed
or vented bath fans, and poorly ventilated attics that
produce condensation. We recommend that a roofing professional
diagnose any possible roof leak.
Q: Do I need to be
home during my roofing project?
A: No. It is not necessary for you to be home,
but it is helpful for us to have a phone number where
you can be reached.
Q: Should we protect
items in our attic?
A: Absolutely. We suggest you cover items stored
in your attic to prevent potential sawdust or dirt from
falling on them.
Q: How should we
handle items attached to our roof (i.e. satellite dishes
and antennas)?
A: Often, we can remove these items after the
required wires have been properly removed by the homeowner
or an appropriate professional. Upon completion of the
re-roofing process, a satellite technician can reinstall
your dish or antennas. As these unique situations are
home-specific, we will work with you to develop an efficient
solution for items attached to the roof of your home.
